Update 01.04.2021

Update 1.3.21 - Masks

We have received a lot of questions from parents wanting to modify a mask to attach to the helmet. At this time, you cannot modify a mask and attach it to the helmet. The only "attach to helmet" mask approved is the CCM Game on Mask. See guidance below.  Please remember that these rules will need to be enforced by coaches, and refs - please abide by the rules.

Quick update for you on two things:

1: Masks for Players 5 Years old and Under:  We were waiting for official confirmation from the MDH that we were interpreting the order correctly on masks for 5 and under.  We did get word. Players 5 and Under are not required to wear a mask while on the ice.  Here's the note I got from MDH yesterday: According the mask executive order, kids 5 and under are not required to wear masks (kids 2-5 can wear masks, but they’re not required)

2: Bauer Splash Guard update: We continue to meet with the State and MDH on getting Bauer Splash Guards approved as a face covering.  We are inching closer, but nothing official to announce yet.  If we do get word that these do in fact get approved as a face covering, I'll let you all know asap.  (Important note/reminder on these is that for us as a governing body to approve a face covering it has to be approved by HECC as well as the State.  So far HECC has only approved CCM Game On and Bauer Splash Guard.)

Season Update

December 31, 2020

Association Members, we wanted to provide you with another update as we resume practices January 4th, 2021. Please reach out to a board member if you have any questions or need clarification.  Here is a condensed version, the guidelines and updates are attached.

  • Practices: Practices begin January 4th, 2021. The calendar is up to date, however, it is fluid – please check it daily as there will be changes. Players and coaches – do not arrive more than 10 minutes before the practice time. No bags. Players must come fully dressed – goalies can bring a bag but please come as dressed as you can. Players must provide their own water bottles.
  • Masks: Per MN Hockey Guidelines, masks must be worn by coaches and players at all times while at practice and during games. The masks must cover your nose and your mouth. Further guidance and explanation can be read as the guidelines are attached. Coaches and players will not be allowed in the arena without a mask.
  • Spectators: We are currently in Phase 4, during this phase there is NO spectators at any practices; parents will need to drop their child off and return to pick up at the end of practice. Mites: ONE parent per family spectating if you feel your child needs you there, if they do not, then please do not stay.
  • Games: Games begin January 14th – teams, your coaches and team managers will have the most up to date schedules and will get those out when they can. Please be patient, this is a lot to schedule. More guidance around games will be sent out when Phase 5 guidelines come out from MN Hockey. All home tournaments for the season, except District tournament have been canceled. Traveling tournaments depend on MN Hockey and/or hosting association. The District and year-end tournaments have been pushed back by MN Hockey to allow for a longer season.
  • COVID Symptoms: If your child is having any symptoms as outlined by the CDC/MDH, has tested positive, a household member has tested positive, or player is exposed to someone confirmed to have COVID, they must stay home from games and practices. In addition to this, promptly notify AYHA COVID contact, Ryan Vossler at Your child will not be penalized for missing games or practices.
  • Check - In: Families will still be expected to use the QR code to check their player in, coaches will also need to use this. The QR code for each arena will be available on the website and at the arena.
  • Refunds: We understand that this pandemic has put strain on multiple families, and in multiple ways. With that being said, we also understand that for various reasons families may choose to forego the rest of the season. All refunds, regardless of reason, will be evaluated at the end of the season.
  • Concessions: At this time, concessions are not being allowed in the arenas. We will continue to evaluate this as guidelines change. No family will be penalized if concession stands cannot open this season.

For some of the older teams, you are going to see some late night practices. This isn’t ideal, and while we understand that, we are working with what we have been given.

Please be patient as we navigate this season. We understand that there are a lot of opinions about masks and it is perfectly acceptable for everyone to have their opinion, however, whether we agree or disagree with the rules, please do your part to help make sure ALL the rules are followed. It is difficult, and not much fun to have to have a discussion with people who are not following the rules, especially when we are such a small community. We are all aware of the rules, and we all need to follow the rules.

January's Board Meeting d will be held virtually on Wednesday, January 13th at 7:30 p.m.
